Feeding pause may save Preemies' lives: major trial launches

Summary
This large international trial is testing whether temporarily stopping milk feedings around the time of a blood transfusion can prevent necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), a severe gut infection, in very premature babies (born before 30 weeks). About 4,300 infants in Canada and the UK will be randomly assigned to either have their feeds paused or continued during transfusions. The goal is to find out which approach is safer and reduces the risk of this life-threatening condition.
