Weekly shot for high cholesterol? new trial tests more frequent dosing
NCT ID NCT07477704
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a weekly dose of alirocumab (Praluent) is safe and effective for adults with high cholesterol. Alirocumab is already approved for use every two weeks, but this trial explores if giving it weekly works better. About 420 participants will receive different weekly doses, and researchers will track how much their LDL ('bad') cholesterol drops and watch for side effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
alirocumab (Praluent)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that weekly dosing of alirocumab is a safe and effective option for lowering high cholesterol.
What could go wrong
This is a mid-stage trial with 420 participants, so results are not final. The weekly dose may cause more side effects or not work better than the approved every-two-week regimen.
