Wearable device may spot dangerous blood pressure drops during surgery
NCT ID NCT07621120
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at whether wearing a fitness tracker before surgery can help predict dangerous drops in blood pressure during anesthesia in patients 65 and older. Researchers will monitor physical activity and sleep patterns with an ActiGraph device, then check for links to heart function and complications. The goal is to find a simple, noninvasive way to improve surgical safety for older adults.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
wearable accelerometer (ActiGraph)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a simple way to identify elderly patients at risk for complications during surgery, helping doctors take preventive steps.
What could go wrong
This is an early observational study with only 100 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The device measures activity, not direct causes of complications.
