Brain drain removal study could shorten ICU stays
NCT ID NCT07630051
First seen Jun 05, 2026 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study looks at the best way to remove a temporary brain drain (external ventricular drain) in patients who had a brain bleed. The drain helps relieve pressure, but keeping it in too long raises infection risk. Researchers will compare two weaning methods—direct clamping versus gradual raising—in 170 adults to see which leads to fewer days with the drain.
