Watermelon vs. cookies: which snack keeps you fuller?
NCT ID NCT03380221
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether eating fresh watermelon every day for four weeks can help people feel fuller and improve markers of heart health. Forty adults aged 18–55 with a BMI between 25 and 40 will either eat 2 cups of watermelon or low-fat cookies daily. Researchers will measure hunger levels and metabolic changes to see if watermelon is a better choice for weight management.

Active substance
fresh watermelon
What this could lead to
If it works, this could suggest that eating watermelon as a snack helps control appetite and supports weight management.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 40 participants. The results may not apply to everyone, and the effect might be no better than low-fat cookies.
