No tourniquet, less pain: new combo approach for hand surgery

NCT ID NCT04494100

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether using the WALANT technique (numbing the hand with local anesthetic and epinephrine) along with nerve blocks at the wrist could make carpal tunnel release surgery more comfortable than using a standard tourniquet. 60 adults having endoscopic carpal tunnel release took part. The goal was to see if avoiding the tourniquet reduces pain during the procedure while still giving good surgical conditions.
