New catheter maps Heart's electrical secrets to stop lethal rhythms
NCT ID NCT05478213
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study uses a special catheter to record detailed electrical signals from the heart during a standard procedure for dangerous heart rhythms (ventricular tachycardia). Researchers aim to better understand why these rhythms start and how to pinpoint the exact trouble spots. Ten adults with ischemic cardiomyopathy and an implantable defibrillator will participate. The goal is to improve future ablation treatments, not to test a new therapy.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Monophasic Action Potential (MAP) Catheter (EasyMap catheter)
What this could lead to
If successful, this research could improve how doctors identify and target the exact heart areas causing dangerous rhythms during ablation procedures.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early observational study (10 participants) focused on understanding mechanisms, not testing a treatment. Results may not lead to immediate clinical changes.
