New heart mapping technique could make VT ablation safer
NCT ID NCT06464315
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tests a new mapping method for ventricular tachycardia (VT) ablation that avoids purposely triggering VT. Instead, it uses special software to identify slow-conduction areas during normal heart rhythm. The goal is to see if this approach reduces VT recurrence, death, or complications. The study involves 36 Veterans with scar-related VT undergoing clinically indicated ablation.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Functional Substrate-Only Mapping (a procedure using isochronal late activation mapping and peak frequency analysis during voltage mapping)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could make VT ablation safer and more effective by avoiding the risks of intentionally triggering dangerous heart rhythms during the procedure.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study with only 36 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The new mapping technique may not be as effective as standard methods in preventing VT recurrence.
