Can virtual reality make stroke rehab more tolerable?
NCT ID NCT06053619
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether adding immersive virtual reality (VR) to robotic walking rehabilitation is tolerable for people who cannot walk after a stroke. Thirty non-walking stroke patients will try both standard robotic rehab and VR-enhanced sessions. Researchers will measure motion sickness, motivation, and how much walking they actually do.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Robotic-assisted walking rehabilitation with immersive virtual reality
What this could lead to
If successful, this could make walking rehab more engaging and tolerable for stroke patients, potentially improving recovery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study (30 participants) focused on tolerance, not effectiveness. The VR may cause motion sickness or discomfort.
