Virtual reality vs. play cards: a new battle to calm Kids' inhaler fears

NCT ID NCT07780331

This trial is taking on new participants right now.

First seen Aug 21, 2026 · Last updated Aug 21, 2026

Summary

This trial tests whether virtual reality goggles or gaming cards can help reduce fear, anxiety, and stress-related changes in heart rate and oxygen levels in children aged 4 to 6 during inhaler treatment. Children receiving inhaler medication often feel scared and anxious, which can affect their cooperation and vital signs. The study compares these two distraction methods against standard care to see which better eases the experience.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Virtual reality goggles (VR BOX) and gaming cards used as distraction tools during inhaler medication
What this could lead to
If effective, these distraction methods could offer a simple, drug-free way to reduce fear and anxiety in young children during inhaler treatments, potentially improving their cooperation and vital signs.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small trial in a specific age group, and results may not apply broadly. The effectiveness of distraction can vary widely among children, and the study does not measure long-term outcomes.
