Could VR headsets help stroke and Parkinson's patients recover at home?
NCT ID NCT07582497
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study will test whether a virtual reality (VR) rehab program done at home can help people recover movement and thinking skills after a stroke or with Parkinson's disease. Sixty participants will either use a VR headset for daily exercises or receive standard rehab. The study will check if the VR approach is practical and effective over 4 weeks, with a 3-month follow-up.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- VR-based telerehabilitation with home kit
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could offer a convenient, home-based rehab option for stroke and Parkinson's patients, potentially improving recovery without frequent clinic visits.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small pilot study with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The technology requires patient comfort with VR, and adherence may vary.
