New study aims to predict dialysis danger in ICU patients
NCT ID NCT07643597
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study will observe 128 critically ill patients with acute kidney injury who need dialysis to remove excess fluid. Researchers want to understand why some patients become unstable during fluid removal. They will monitor heart function, blood flow, and other signs before and during treatment to find early warning signals. The goal is to make dialysis safer by tailoring fluid removal to each patient.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help doctors identify which patients are at risk of complications during fluid removal, leading to safer, personalized dialysis in the ICU.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial, so it won't directly test a new therapy. Results may not apply to all ICU patients or lead to immediate changes in care.
