Could vitamin d boost chemo success in breast cancer?
NCT ID NCT04677816
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether taking vitamin D supplements during standard chemotherapy can help more tumors disappear in people with triple-negative breast cancer who are low in vitamin D. About 50 participants will receive vitamin D plus chemotherapy, and researchers will compare their response to historical data. The goal is to see if correcting vitamin D deficiency improves the chance of a complete response.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Vitamin D
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that correcting vitamin D deficiency helps chemotherapy work better for triple-negative breast cancer.
What could go wrong
This is a small early-phase study with only 50 participants, so results may not apply broadly. Vitamin D may not improve outcomes, and standard chemotherapy side effects still apply.
