First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looked at whether giving a single high dose of vitamin C through an IV, along with nerve blocks, could reduce pain and help people recover faster after total knee replacement. 73 adults aged 50 to 80 took part. The researchers measured pain levels, soreness, and how much morphine was needed after surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
vitamin C (ascorbic acid)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, low-cost way to improve pain control and recovery after knee replacement surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed trial with only 73 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. High-dose vitamin C can cause side effects like nausea or kidney stones in some people.
