Vision training shows promise for macular degeneration patients

NCT ID NCT05454124

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at whether special vision training can improve how people with central vision loss from macular degeneration see and move their eyes. Researchers will train 60 adults aged 18 to 89 with severe vision loss to better detect and discriminate visual patterns. The goal is to understand how the brain adapts after vision loss, which could lead to new low-vision therapies.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

vision training (behavioral intervention)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could point toward new therapies to improve vision and daily function for people with low vision from macular degeneration.

What could go wrong

This is an early-stage, observational study with only 60 participants. It is not testing a treatment or cure, and results may not lead to a practical therapy.
