First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

VISION-2 is a large observational study of 20,000 older adults having noncardiac surgery. Participants will wear a continuous vital signs monitor for up to 30 days after surgery. The goal is to find early warning signs of serious complications like heart injury, severe bleeding, and sepsis, and to build prediction models. No new treatment is being tested.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to a wearable device that warns doctors early about serious complications after surgery, potentially saving lives.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It may not find clear warning signals, and any future device would need separate testing.
