Scientists probe pain pathways in Tiny-Dose drug study

NCT ID NCT07511400

First seen Apr 18, 2026 · Last updated Jun 12, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study looks at how a protein called NaV1.8, found in pain-sensing nerves, contributes to different kinds of pain. Healthy volunteers receive tiny, safe doses of a drug that blocks NaV1.8 directly into their skin, then undergo brief pain tests (like heat, cold, or pressure). By comparing the drug to a placebo and a local anesthetic, researchers hope to learn which pain types rely on NaV1.8, paving the way for new, non-opioid pain relievers.
