New study tests ultrasound as safer alternative to x-rays for feeding tube checks
NCT ID NCT06361498
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares ultrasound to standard X-ray (fluoroscopy) for checking whether a feeding tube is correctly placed in children. Ten children who recently had a feeding tube replaced will get an ultrasound before their routine X-ray. Researchers want to see if ultrasound is just as accurate and faster, which could mean less radiation exposure for young patients.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Ultrasound imaging
What this could lead to
If successful, ultrasound could replace fluoroscopy for checking feeding tube placement, reducing radiation exposure in children.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early study (10 participants) and only looks at one specific use case. Ultrasound may not be accurate enough in all situations.
