Can ultrasound spot swallowing muscle loss in ICU patients?
NCT ID NCT07606690
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study aims to see if ultrasound can reliably measure a small muscle under the jaw (geniohyoid) in sedated patients on a breathing machine. The muscle is important for swallowing, and may shrink during ICU stays. Researchers will take pictures of the muscle and check if the measurements are consistent between different tries and different researchers. The goal is to develop a method to study muscle loss in the future.
