Ultrasound may guide gum surgery by revealing hidden blood vessels
NCT ID NCT07727707
First seen Jul 27, 2026 · Last updated Jul 28, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether ultrasound can map blood vessels in the lower jaw before gum recession surgery. Four adults with gum recession will receive a coronally advanced flap procedure, and researchers will compare ultrasound images taken before surgery with what they see during and after the operation. The goal is to see if ultrasound can help predict bleeding and improve surgical planning.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could help surgeons plan gum recession procedures more precisely, potentially reducing complications.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small case series with only 4 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The technique is exploratory and not yet proven to improve outcomes.
