Twin study aims to unlock secrets of metabolic syndrome and liver disease
NCT ID NCT07181018
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study follows 1,500 twins aged 15-44 in Poland over 5 years to learn how metabolic syndrome and related liver problems develop. Researchers will look at genetics, environment, and gut bacteria. Some twins will get an educational program to encourage healthy changes, while their co-twin serves as a control.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
educational intervention
What this could lead to
If successful, this could reveal key risk factors and genetic influences for metabolic syndrome and liver disease, pointing toward better prevention strategies.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study with an educational component, not a treatment trial. Results may not apply to non-twin populations, and the intervention's impact may be limited.
