Sound waves may help straighten jaws in teens
NCT ID NCT07676695
First seen Jun 30, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial investigates whether adding low-intensity pulsed ultrasound to standard twin-block braces can improve jaw joint growth in teenagers with a receding lower jaw (skeletal class II malocclusion). The study involves 24 participants who will receive the combined treatment. The main goal is to measure changes in the condylar head of the jaw joint, which could lead to better facial alignment and bite correction.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
low intensity pulsed ultrasound
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a faster, more effective way to correct jaw alignment in growing teens, potentially reducing the need for surgery later.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 24 participants, so results may not apply widely. The ultrasound device is experimental for this use, and benefits over standard treatment alone are uncertain.
