Could a gentle brain zap quiet essential tremors?
NCT ID NCT07531238
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This small pilot study will test whether a non-invasive electrical stimulation technique called tTIS can reduce tremors in people with essential tremor. Six adults who are already candidates for a standard treatment (focused ultrasound) will receive tTIS to a deep brain area involved in tremor. The goal is to see if tTIS can temporarily mimic the effects of more invasive treatments, potentially paving the way for better planning of future therapies.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- transcranial temporal interference stimulation (tTIS) via a DS5 stimulator
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a non-invasive way to temporarily ease tremors and help plan safer treatments like focused ultrasound.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very early, small proof-of-concept study with only 6 participants, so results may not apply widely. The stimulation may not reduce tremors or could cause discomfort.
