Healthy adult study paves way for safer nutrition in preterm babies
NCT ID NCT06551545
First seen Apr 01, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 10 times
Summary
This study involved 10 healthy adults to develop a method for measuring how the body breaks down tryptophan, an essential amino acid. The goal is to later apply this method to preterm babies receiving IV nutrition, where too much tryptophan can produce harmful brain compounds. Participants took a special tracer and provided blood and urine samples to track tryptophan metabolism.
