Sleep aid trazodone may pose hidden danger for seniors with weak kidneys

NCT ID NCT07381101

First seen Feb 02, 2026 · Last updated May 03, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study examined over 31,000 older adults (65+) with chronic kidney disease to see if starting a higher dose of the sleep medication trazodone (75-150 mg/day) increases the risk of hospitalization, emergency visits, or death within 30 days compared to a lower dose (25-75 mg/day). The goal was to understand medication safety in this vulnerable group, not to test a new treatment. Results will help guide safer prescribing.
