Scientists hunt for hidden clues to prevent transfusion lung injury in ICU

NCT ID NCT06444750

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 09, 2026 · Updated 35 times

Summary

This study aims to find biological markers (biomarkers) in the blood that can help doctors quickly identify transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI) in intensive care patients. TRALI is a rare but dangerous complication of blood transfusions, especially in critically ill people. Researchers will compare blood samples from 210 ICU patients with and without lung injury, both before and after transfusion, to pinpoint proteins that signal TRALI. The goal is to improve diagnosis and ultimately make transfusions safer.
