Researchers shed light on the hidden struggles of ventilator weaning

NCT ID NCT05906888

Summary

This study observed 156 critically ill patients in the ICU who were slowly taken off a breathing machine (ventilator) using a tracheostomy tube in their neck. The goal was to understand how long this weaning process takes and how often patients experience breathing difficulty, discomfort, or need suctioning. Researchers tracked these experiences and later checked on patients' quality of life and mental health to improve future care.
