Breathing tube shape may reduce pneumonia risk in ICU patients

NCT ID NCT01948635

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looked at whether a specially shaped cuff on breathing tubes could reduce the amount of stomach fluid that leaks into the lungs of critically ill patients on ventilators. Researchers measured pepsin levels (a stomach enzyme) in 326 adults to track leakage. The goal was to see if this tube design could help prevent lung infections.
