Magnetic pulses to the brain show promise for veterans with PTSD

NCT ID NCT04207346

First seen Nov 20, 2025 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study tested whether transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) — a noninvasive treatment that uses a powerful magnet to stimulate specific brain regions — can improve daily functioning in veterans with PTSD. Researchers compared real TMS to a sham (fake) treatment in 59 veterans. The goal was to see if TMS reduces PTSD symptoms and disability. Results may offer a new option for those who haven't found relief from other treatments.
