First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This pilot study tests a new one-day treatment for people with borderline personality disorder (BPD) who have suicidal thoughts. It combines a medication called D-cycloserine with up to 20 short sessions of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) over 12 hours. The study enrolls 20 adults and aims to see if the treatment is acceptable, feasible, and whether it improves symptoms and brain activity.

D-cycloserine and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a rapid, one-day treatment to reduce suicidal thoughts in people with borderline personality disorder.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early-phase pilot study (20 people) testing feasibility first. It may not show clear benefits, and the effects might not last.
