Pulsed radiation may offer safer retreatment for brain tumors
NCT ID NCT05393258
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This pilot study tested a new way to deliver radiation therapy to people with recurrent IDH-mutant gliomas who had already received radiation to the brain. Instead of giving one large dose, the radiation was given in many small, timed pulses to reduce side effects. The study included 13 participants and focused on safety and symptom burden.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
temporally-modulated pulsed radiation therapy (TMPRT)
What this could lead to
If successful, this radiation technique could offer a safer way to retreat recurrent brain tumors, reducing side effects and improving quality of life for patients who have already had radiation.
What could go wrong
This is a very small pilot study with only 13 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The main goal was safety, not effectiveness, and it is too early to know if this approach works better than standard care.
