First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This study tests whether adding tirzepatide (a drug used for diabetes and weight loss) to standard buprenorphine treatment helps people with moderate to severe opioid use disorder stay in treatment longer and reduce opioid use. About 310 adults who recently started buprenorphine will receive either tirzepatide or a placebo for 6 months. The goal is to see if tirzepatide improves treatment retention, reduces illicit opioid use, and improves sleep.
