Singing away the ring: new training aims to silence tinnitus without drugs
NCT ID NCT06880367
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a 5-week audio-proprio-phonatory training program can reduce the daily-life disability caused by chronic tinnitus. 56 adults with tinnitus will either receive the training or not, and researchers will use brain wave recordings (EEG) and questionnaires to measure changes. The training involves group workshops and self-led exercises where patients use their own voice to mask or inhibit the ringing in their ears.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
audio-proprio-phonatory reinforcement training (behavioral intervention)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a drug-free, self-administered technique to help people manage chronic tinnitus and reduce its impact on daily life.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study (56 people) with no blinding or placebo control. The training requires active participation and may not work for everyone. Results rely on subjective questionnaires.
