Timing your rehab after back surgery could be key to recovery
NCT ID NCT07161232
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study is testing whether starting rehabilitation exercises earlier or later after back surgery for a herniated disc leads to better pain and function. Seventy-two adults aged 19 to 65 will follow a standardized exercise program guided by a physical therapist. The main goal is to see how the timing of rehab affects disability scores one year after surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Standardized postoperative rehabilitation protocol (exercises and techniques guided by a physical therapist)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could help doctors decide the best time to start rehabilitation after back surgery, leading to better pain relief and faster recovery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 72 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The benefit of timing may be small or hard to measure.
