First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 22 times
Summary
This study looks at a care approach called a time-limited trial (TLT) for patients in the ICU who need a breathing machine. Doctors, patients, and families agree to try treatments for a set time, then check if the patient is recovering. The goal is to find the best way to use TLTs to reduce time in the ICU and improve experiences for families and staff. About 7,800 adults on breathing machines and their family decision-makers will take part.
