Glowing glands: new light technique aims to prevent surgery complication

NCT ID NCT06222606

Summary

This study is testing if using a special camera that makes parathyroid glands glow under infrared light during thyroid cancer surgery helps surgeons see and protect them better. The goal is to reduce the risk of a common complication called hypoparathyroidism, which requires lifelong medication. About 160 patients having surgery to remove their thyroid will be randomly assigned to have surgery with or without this camera system.
