Can a simple thermal camera spot blood flow changes in leg arteries?

NCT ID NCT06544135

First seen Jul 02, 2026 · Last updated Jul 02, 2026

Summary

This study explores whether a thermal imaging camera can detect changes in blood flow to the legs after a procedure to reopen blocked arteries. Researchers will compare temperature readings from the camera with standard ankle-brachial index measurements in 25 people with severe peripheral artery disease. If successful, this could lead to a faster, painless way to evaluate treatment success.

Active substance

FLIR One Pro LT thermal imaging camera

What this could lead to

If thermal imaging proves reliable, it could offer a quick, non-invasive way to assess blood flow in leg arteries without needles or contrast dye.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early observational study with only 25 participants. The camera may not be accurate enough to replace standard tests, and results may not apply to all patients.
