Blood test may forecast Post-Surgery delirium in diabetics
NCT ID NCT06426953
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at whether certain proteins in the blood can predict postoperative delirium (sudden confusion after surgery) in elderly patients with diabetes. Researchers will measure levels of TGF-β, ADNP, MAP6, and PGC-1α in 180 participants before surgery and track who develops delirium. No treatment is given; this is purely an observational study to gather knowledge.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a blood test that helps predict which diabetes patients are at risk for confusion after surgery.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It only looks for links between proteins and delirium, so it won't directly improve patient outcomes. Results may not apply to all patients.
