NCT ID NCT07252401

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares two drugs, terlipressin and somatostatin, in 64 adults with liver cirrhosis who have acute gastrointestinal bleeding and acute kidney injury. Both drugs are given intravenously for up to 5 days. The main goal is to see which drug better reverses kidney injury. This is a randomized controlled trial, meaning patients are assigned to one drug or the other by chance.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

terlipressin (also known as Terlivaz) and somatostatin (also known as Stilamin)

What this could lead to

If terlipressin proves better, it could become the preferred treatment for cirrhosis patients with both bleeding and kidney injury, potentially improving outcomes.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 64 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The treatment is short-term (5 days) and may not work for everyone.
