Can a home rehab system help COPD patients breathe easier?
NCT ID NCT05314686
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether a telerehabilitation system can reliably track heart rate, oxygen levels, and step counts in people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). In the first phase, 40 patients used the system during exercise sessions; in the second phase, they used it at home for eight weeks. The goal was to see if the technology works accurately and is practical for home use.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
telerehabilitation system (remote monitoring devices: pulse oximeter and physical activity tracker)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could pave the way for remote pulmonary rehabilitation programs for COPD patients, making care more accessible.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early feasibility study (40 participants) focused on technical performance, not health outcomes. The system may not work for all patients or in all home settings.
