NCT ID NCT05741840
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a telehealth program that teaches parents of children with autism and overweight or obesity how to help their child manage weight through nutrition, activity, and behavior skills. About 140 families will take part, with one group receiving the parent-based program and another receiving health education only. The goal is to see if the parent program leads to better weight control.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
parent-based behavioral treatment (PBT-A)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a practical, home-based weight management option for children with autism and obesity.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study with 140 participants, so results may not apply to all families. The program requires strong parent commitment, and weight loss may be modest.
