Simple blood test may predict pacemaker need after heart valve procedure

NCT ID NCT07201363

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study is looking at whether certain substances in the blood, related to inflammation and scarring, can predict if a person will develop heart rhythm problems after a procedure called TAVI (transcatheter aortic valve implantation). TAVI is a less invasive way to replace a narrowed heart valve. About 102 people with severe aortic stenosis will have blood samples taken before their TAVI procedure. Researchers will then track who develops new heart rhythm issues or needs a permanent pacemaker, and see if those people had different levels of these blood markers beforehand.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help doctors identify patients at higher risk for heart rhythm problems after TAVI, potentially leading to better monitoring or preventive strategies.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It is small (102 participants) and only looks at blood markers before the procedure, so results may not apply to all patients or lead to direct changes in care.
