MRI-Guided therapy could spare rectal cancer patients unnecessary surgery

Summary
This study aims to personalize treatment for people with locally advanced rectal cancer. After a short course of chemotherapy, an MRI will identify those who respond very well. These good responders will then be randomly assigned to either immediate surgery or additional chemoradiation before surgery, to see which approach offers better cancer control and quality of life. The trial enrolls 1075 adults and is currently recruiting.
