Ancient movements take on Parkinson's: tai chi and Qi-Gong face off

NCT ID NCT07662837

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compares Tai Chi and Qi-Gong, two gentle movement therapies, to see which better improves balance and motor function in people with stage I Parkinson's disease. Fifty participants aged 50 to 65 will receive either Tai Chi or Qi-Gong alongside standard physical therapy for 8 weeks. Researchers will measure changes in motor function and balance using standard rating scales to identify the more effective rehabilitation approach.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Tai Chi and Qi-Gong

What this could lead to

If one approach proves more effective, it could point toward a preferred rehabilitation therapy for early Parkinson's, potentially slowing motor decline and reducing fall risk.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase study with only 50 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The interventions are complementary and not expected to cure Parkinson's.
