Tablet tech could transform breast cancer diagnosis in nigeria
NCT ID NCT05561842
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study trains Nigerian radiologists to use tablet-based ultrasound to guide breast biopsies, a method that is more accurate than the blind biopsies or surgical excisions currently used. Nine hundred women with suspicious breast lumps will participate. The goal is to make this advanced diagnostic technique sustainable and widely available in Nigeria.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could make breast cancer diagnosis more accurate and accessible in Nigeria, reducing the need for blind biopsies or surgery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a training study, not a treatment trial. Success depends on radiologists learning the technique and it being adopted in practice. Results may not apply to other settings.
