First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This Mayo Clinic study tested whether a dietary supplement called Synaquell™ can affect brain function in 25 youth contact sport athletes. Participants took either the supplement or a placebo twice daily during their sport season. Researchers measured brain activity with EEG and looked at blood markers to see if there were any changes.

What this could lead to

If it shows positive effects, this could point toward a supplement that helps protect brain health in young athletes who play contact sports.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, early-stage study with only 25 participants. The results may not be strong enough to prove any real benefit, and dietary supplements often fail to show clear effects in larger trials.
