New study aims to help women stick with Life-Saving breast cancer treatment
NCT ID NCT07071038
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
About half of women stop taking aromatase inhibitors early due to side effects, raising the risk of cancer returning. This study tests whether switching to a different hormone drug or using other symptom-relief methods works better at managing those side effects. Researchers will track symptom burden in 62 women with early breast cancer over 6 months to find the best approach.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
anastrozole, exemestane, or tamoxifen
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a better way to manage side effects so more women complete their 5-year breast cancer treatment, reducing the risk of cancer returning.
What could go wrong
This is a small Phase 2 study with only 62 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Side effects may still persist despite switching or other interventions.
