First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 05, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study explores whether suvorexant, a drug used for sleep problems, can help people with alcohol use disorder (AUD) by changing how the brain's dopamine system works. Researchers will compare suvorexant to a placebo in 180 adults (ages 18-75) with AUD who are undergoing detox, as well as healthy volunteers. Participants will have brain scans, sleep monitoring, and tests of thinking and memory to see if the drug reduces cravings and improves sleep.
