Spine fracture study: is surgery necessary when nerves are fine?

NCT ID NCT05769114

First seen May 07, 2026 · Last updated Jun 09, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study looks at adults aged 18-70 who have a specific type of broken back (thoracolumbar burst fracture) but no nerve damage. Half will get surgery to fuse the spine, and half will wear a brace for six weeks instead. Researchers want to see if avoiding surgery works just as well for recovery, pain, and spine alignment over two years.
