NCT ID NCT02394626
First seen Feb 02, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 16 times
Summary
This study looks at whether surgery can help people whose glioblastoma has come back after initial treatment. 120 participants will be randomly assigned to either have surgery followed by second-line therapy, or to have second-line therapy alone. The goal is to see if surgery improves overall survival, neurological function, and quality of life.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
surgery (craniotomy and tumor resection)
What this could lead to
If successful, this trial could provide the first strong evidence that surgery for recurrent glioblastoma extends survival, potentially changing standard care.
What could go wrong
This is a phase 2 trial with only 120 participants, so results are preliminary. Past retrospective studies have been mixed, and surgery carries risks like infection or neurological damage.
Conditions
The condition(s) this trial relates to.
As listed by the trial registrant
The condition terms exactly as the trial's registrant entered them.
